HI, HOLA AND HEJ!

I’m Katha and I’m a lover of words. Have always been, ever since I can remember. Starting in my early day of school, when I sucked up foreign languages without any bigger efforts, and added by studies at home and later at university, I have acquired a colorful bunch of languages, namely English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and a little bit of Swedish. And, after living almost half a year in Cambodia, I can now even show off buying a watermelon in Khmer  skill that was key to survival down there, believe me. During my studies, I was then probably the only weird person that actually enjoyed writing essays and papers, which made me end up correcting and polishing my friends‘ papers and then also the papers of strangers, starting my first freelance jobs.

LANGUAGE AND ME: NOT JUST A CASUAL LOVE STORY

The joy I find in getting the best out of texts and shaping raw jewels over and over again until they shine is something that deepened during my internship in a German publishing house. When I started to do more freelance work on editing and proofreading, however, I found that this didn’t quite fulfill my urge to create. This deep creativity that drives me is something I like to put into my own writing, juggling with words, their meanings and the ideas and images we associate with them. I love how a vague inspiration or a more concrete idea can turn into a powerful text that tells a story that really moves us.

WORDS ARE THERE TO TELL POWERFUL STORIES AND CREATE A WORLD WE WANT TO LIVE IN

Think about it: when was the last time you got moved by words? Was it someone who held a speech during a friend’s wedding? Was it a birthday or thank you card someone gave you? Or was it a simple sentence or even a single word you read in the subway in one of those rare, really good ads? Isn’t it just fascinating what language can do with us? Now imagine that it’s really in our power to use it. We can do pretty amazing things with it. I’m on the mission to figure these out with what I do. If you want, I’ll take you on the journey!
